While waiting for some CDs I really wanted to come out, I bought a handful of singles at Anime Expo; this was one of them. I hadn't yet seen the SILENT MOBIUS television series, so I was essentially buying it "blind," but I figured what the heck.
This song is entirely in English, and sung by someone who can apparently speak and enunciate English properly. As a result, it sounds really good. The song has a slow, bluesy feel, which is not what I expected for SILENT MOBIUS. Then again, I wasn't sure what to expect, as long as it wasn't monkeys banging on the keyboard like they did in the instrumental bridge on "Sailing" (from the first SILENT MOBIUS movie).
Karen Mok is apparently a recording star in her own right, as she appears on this CD courtesy of another record company. Her vocal performance is good; a little bit breathy and a little bit husky at the same time, which works well with the blues. This song sounds very different from many of the current anime theme songs on the market, especially since it is not performed by the newest or hottest or cutest idol singer.
My only complaint with this CD is that instead of including another, different song on it, there are three more versions of "Silently." And while the "Love Scat" version (in which Ms. Mok glissandos her way through the melody) is nice, I would have preferred another song. And did we really need the "Instrumental SAX version"? The last version is, of course, the obligatory karaoke track.
In short, a good song, but not a great CD single. If you like the rest of the SILENT MOBIUS music, perhaps you should look into getting the original soundtrack CD, which is sure to have this song on it.
